Gaming for Charity!
I’ve auctioned off the opportunity to be characters in one of my future games-to-be in a benefit auction. I have the following mandatory characters:
- Mid-twenties female villain
- Mid-twenties male hero
- 5-year-old male supporting character
Help me come up with a sa-WHEET plot!
So far, this is what I’ve got: The hero and villain used to be married, the hero unaware that his wife was secretly running a local crime ring. Some catalytic event happens (just before or at the beginning of the game) that drives the wife into the open with her life of crime. She kidnaps her own son and holds him hostage. She will kill him if she needs to.
The player (hero) is the dad. He has to find out where his wife is hiding out, sneak (or break) in, gun down some nameless bad guys, and rescue his son. But when he gets there, beats his wife, and breaks into his son’s room, he finds his son already missing!
At this point, you start playing as the son in a flashback to his daring escape. You have to navigate your way out of the bad guys’ hideout without being seen (and killed). When you finally make it out, you meet up with your dad, who is dejectedly leaving the mobster’s hideout. Happy ending.
So, what ideas do you guys have to flesh this out?

I don’t know about the evil (former) wife thing. Perhaps an evil stepmother would be better. I guess it takes a special kind of psycho to want to kill her own children (hence an evil stepmother being a bit more believable).
Could make for some interesting gameplay though - especially since kids can fit in places that adults can’t. (I could imagine being a kid and running from the bad guys. Perhaps almost a bit Home-Alone like).

YEAH!!!! And killing a former wife would be a little weird. But maybe you don’t have to actually killer her… Just bring her to justice. Twice the difficulty, and not near as yucky.
And don’t you remember the lesson of Serious Sam? With enough baddies, and cool terrain, you don’t need a story.

The ex-wife willing to kill her own son could be believable if she is schizophrenic (I shouldn’t tell you that idea came to me from a true story I know).
This could make for very interesting psycho-thriller plot twists, but would require sensitive storytelling to be engaging and not disgusting. And you would want to come up with a believable, happy ending.
