The Girl

By popular demand, here’s a bunch of pictures of Liliana.  I think these all come from our recent trip to Peru.

This is Liliana and me on the Pacific beach a few miles from her family’s home in Chincha.  This was the first time I’d ever seen the Pacific ocean.  It was beautiful… and warm!  I went swimming for quite a while.  The locals thought it was freezing, but it was warmer than any ocean I’d ever been in.

This is Liliana working with her cousin Pilar and her mother to prepare a lunch for all of us who came to help with the construction project.  Her mom is possibly the second-best cook in the world (next to my mom, of course).

This is me helping Liliana with the grossest cooking job ever–putting three types of half-boiled potatoes through a hand-crank wheat grinder.  They wrapped up some stir-fry type stuff in the resulting mush and deep-fried the whole thing.  It was amazing.

From left to right, me, Liliana, her two neices Carla and Marilyn, her nephew Joao, and her mother (background).

This is Liliana and me standing in front of the Lima, Peru LDS temple.

This is Liliana and me with her best friend Sisi, again in front of the Lima, Peru LDS temple.  [editorial note: Sisi was actually the first one to know that I was intending to propose to Liliana]

This is Liliana at a high vantage point over one part of the (enormous) city of Lima.

Liliana may kill me for posting this one.  This is Lima’s designated make-out point.  It’s a government-owned park called the “Parque de Amor.”  You can see the huge statue of two people going at it, the man with his shirt off.  It’s just a little park with that statue and a bunch of benches.  Anyway, we did what I’m sure innumerable tourists have done before us, and got a picture imitating the art.  While we were getting into the pose, we had a group of about 15 passers-by stop and watch us, giggling.

EW for brothers kissing girls! I don’t know HOW I’m going to react when Jimmy gets engaged.

    Bleh.

  2. DadOfTen Says:

I agree with Katie. My little boy kissing a . EW, gross!

Now that we have some pictures of Liliana that do not hide her in shadows, I’m worried you are only marrying her for her beauty. I’ll just have to trust you that she is as beautiful on the inside as on the outside. Well actually, my spies say Liliana is wonderful. Congratulations.

    Love you,
    Dad

  3. Ethan Says:

Man, if Katie thinks Jimmy’s gonna be bad, wait until I get engaged!

    Ethan

  4. beandog Says:

Okay, Ethan, I don’t really know what that means, but I hope it’s good :-D

Dad: Yup, she’s a babe. And you might *really* have to trust me, because with the extra time she had to wait in Peru, she may not be able to get enough time off to come see you guys at Christmas. We’ll see.

  5. Joel Says:

Heh, that’s pretty cool. That, and where did you get your Visual Studio shirt?

  6. beandog Says:

Got my Visual Studio shirt at a launch event for Visual Studio 2005, back in 2005. I was hoping for a free copy of VS 2005 Pro from the raffle, but I just got the T-shirt :-( The good news is, I ended up getting a free copy of VS 2005 anyway from that “take webinars, get free stuff” thing someone posted in the GDNet Lounge all that time ago.

Nice make-out picture. *Blech* Make that double *blech*. I can beleive she’ll kill you for posting it.

  8. Tom Says:

As the roommate, I can vouch for the fact that Liliana is a babe and also very cool. She is also an excellent cook, which is really the key factor in rating the girlfriend of my roommate :)

Also, Ben is a stud. Congratulations

  9. James Dilts Says:

I noticed the shirt too. Nice job! And don’t worry katie, you’ve got a few more years to worry about me. I’d worry more about Rachel! ;-)

  10. Katie Says:

I don’t know Jimmy, I could see you married the summer after you get home. If Rachel gets married before I graduate college THEN I’d really feel like an old maid.

  11. Ginger Adams Says:

Ben-your family is hilarious. I’m just glad to see pictures of you and Liliana, and I’m really excited about your engagement! Congratulations! So how did you propose and when and where? I have got to hear the story since I clearly am the best friend to both of you, well, next to eachother. It’s amazing to me that we all went to Peru together, and in our little groups, we all had our own seperate vacations. Well, all I have to say was that it was amazing and Liliana is amazing too! Just for the record, Liliana has a great spirit about her; she has shared many times with me her love for the scriptures, prayer, temples, and she loves church activities. Some of my other favorite things about her is that she love to tease people and make them laugh; she can cook and dance, and she can tell a good story like Ben.

  12. Miriam Says:

Thanks SO much for the pictures. I trust She’s a nice person.
