Remote Desktop (Terminal Services) Server in Vista Home Premium

Read this post. One of my major reservations getting Vista Home Premium was that Remote Desktop Server was not included. But I could not justify the price of the upgrade when you can install UltraVNC as a system service for free.

Well, the built-in Remote Desktop is WAY better than VNC, and now there’s a patch out to enable it. As it turns out, the Remote Desktop Server is shipped with Vista Home Premium but is disabled by registry settings (!). Now I feel even better about my purchase of Vista Home Premium.

I had the same problem. To pay $160 more just to have RDC as a host was waaaaaayyyyy too much for me, after all, all other goodies from the Ultimate version are not needed by me. Now, I also feel very good that I opted for Home Premium. But, it needs more than just registry settings, it takes also a hacked DLL to do the trick and some very smart programmer did it. That’s the beauty of internet, makes laymen and kind, good programmers meet, :-).

Mircrosoft is evil. Now all their operating systems come in 7 versions. It’s just stupid.
